12/27/07 Open Letter to Barclays: My refusal to pay its Juniper credit card
Juniper (Barclays) CLOSED my account due to my Trans Union credit report. My credit was FLAWLESS. I made my minimum payments until Barclays DECLINED my 12/21/07 request to reopen my account and to lower the interest rate. I hope to encourage many millions of exploited judgment proof consumers worldwide to stop paying their unsecured debt.

Dear Barclays executives:
The 10/16/06 Juniper letter states:
Effective immediately, we must close your Juniper account for the following reasons:
Balances Too High On Revolving Accounts
Too Many Accounts With Balances
The letter also states that TRANS UNION provided you in whole or in part with information that influenced your decision. Did you make your decision based on a Trans Union credit score?
I continued to make my monthly payments on time for over a year.
On 12/21/07 a Juniper customer rep declined my request for a lower interest rate and to have my account reopened.
I therefore must stop paying my Juniper credit card.
It SHOULD be illegal to charge 26% interest for any credit card debt and to close an account due to credit scores.
I am hoping that this Open Letter will draw the legislators’ attention to your vile business practices and the potential consequences:
I hope that many millions of exploited and judgment-proof consumers will STOP paying their unsecured debt.
Why aren’t the Juniper credit specialists smart enough to figure out that they are forcing account holders to default? What incentive do I have to pay a CLOSED account with a 26% interest rate? NONE. Your competitors are finally catching on:
11/20/07: CHASE announced its new policy to no longer utilize credit data to rate open accounts

I have FLAWLESS credit, but apparently credit scores determined that I was a poor credit risk.
Soon you will destroy my credit. And I will stop paying every creditor who takes adverse action due to your reporting of my Juniper credit card as delinquent to the credit bureaus.
Please contact me if you wish to change your credit card rating practices or with any comments for my publications and my upcoming book.
Good luck squeezing blood out of turnips.
Sincerely,
Christine Baker
